Circulation, dehydration, poor eyesight, certain foods, and anxiety are just a few of the culprits to bring a headache on. If you feel the top of your head is becoming painful and pulsating, grab some of your hair and squeeze with your hand pulling your hair away from the scalp and hold for a few seconds. Be sensible as to how hard you pull. You don’t want to be pulling out your hair. Start with ten repetitions, but you may need to go to fifteen.

Exercising to target your neck muscles are good to relieve tension is to open your mouth as wide as you can and close slowly and gently. This should take tension off of your sides of your head and jaw. The mastoid muscles have the ability to get very tight. It divides the anterior triangle of the neck from the posterior and this muscle group feels tension almost immediately.

Chin tucks can also help. Pretend you are closing a drawer and bring our chin backwards. Avoid clenching our teeth. Hold this for ten seconds and then repeat ten times. With this exercise, you will be strengthening the back of your neck and you may feel the base of your neck stretch. Great work!

A technique using massage to help with tension is to place your index and middle fingers on your temples. The temples are on the sides of your head near your eye socket and above the bones of the cheek. Move your fingers and press in toward your ears. Move your fingers back to the start and then press in and pack towards your ears. Start again at the temples and press in and up and back towards your head. Ten repetitions should help. Repeat every hour.

The importance of drinking fluids during the day is quite important to prevent a headache. Dehydration can come quickly to some people. It is good for us and great to keep our skin moist.

Yoga is another form of exercise that is beneficial to your neck and will help reduce your tension. You can start slow and work up to the more complex poses, and in the process, you will be strengthening your neck, which will help reduce your chances of the onset of a headache.
